-Vita-
Hugo and I started out like a fairy tale romance. We were both fourteen when we met at a disco. He came in with his friends and I was with mine. I was still beautiful in those days. In fact, I was at the peak of my innocence. All of the boys turned their heads when I walked by. Yet, they were no match for me. Even in those days, I was an ambitious girl. I already had my future planned out since I was twelve. I wanted to be a powerful business woman in all of Europe. I even had my company name planned out. I didn’t have plans for romance or marriage. That was until I met him.
Hugo saw me on the dance floor on that fateful night. Like any other man, he couldn’t resist me. I of course I had no real interest in him. We met up at the juice bar after I danced.
“Hello there,” he greeted me. I gave him a small wave of indifference.
“Hi,” I said back.
“Are you by yourself?” he asked. I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Why?” I naturally asked him. The beautiful devil of a tool gave me a charming smile.
“You are the most beautiful girl that I have seen tonight,” he said. I laughed off his compliment.
“Please,” I said, “I get that a lot.”
“But I truly mean it,” he insisted. I took a sip of my juice and set down the glass.
“Do you now?” I asked. He gave me a silent little nod. I moved aside my glass and smirked. This could be an interesting turn of events.
“Heh,” I said, “And what’s your name?” That monkey’s smile deepened. Even back then, I came to hate it so much.
“Hugo,” he replied, “Hugo Diaz and who might you be?” I flipped back my sandy brown hair.
“Vita Ferro,” I said.
“Yes, that is my name,” I told him. Hugo looked around for a bit before he leaned in close to my ear.
“Say, let’s you and I get out of this place and go somewhere more exciting,” he whispered. I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Isn’t this place exciting?” I asked.
“Somewhere better than this,” he offered. I smiled and shook my head at him.
“Nah,” I said, “I’m here with my friends.” Hugo gave me a small frown.
“Some other time then?” he asked. I looked at him with a little smirk.
“Maybe,” I said. Then, I walked back to the dance floor. He didn’t stop pursing me from there. Turned out, we went to the same school as teenagers. So, that creep found plenty of times to chase me down and hit on me. Hugo even asked me out twenty times. Twenty times and he still wouldn’t take a hint. Finally just to stop him from annoying me any further, I said yes and went out with him.
To my surprise, I had a lovely time out with him. Hugo came from a rich family just like I did. In fact, his father was a top owner of the restaurant chain, El Madrid. I’m talking top of the line cuisine here. The chef brought in dishes that I thought were lost for forever with the times of Europe. I was impressed when I first walked through the glass doors. Hugo stood back, smirking with a face full of pride.
“My family owns this place,” he bragged. I should have taken that as a clue of things to come. Yet, the sea of gold on the walls and flowing fountain at the booth wiped away any suspicions that I had about that tool. Hugo pretty much used his wealth and charm to woo me into bed, dating him, and marrying him. His family even helped me get my future business off the ground. Had I have seen the slacker writing on the wall, I would’ve fled when I had the chance. Even so back then, I found myself dazzled and taken in before I had the chance to resist.
What made it worse was that he proposed to me right there in the restaurant in front of his family and the customers. Of course, I happily said yes because I was blind with love at the time. I just wish I could’ve known how this fairy tale romance would’ve turned into Hell on my part. At least now I will get the chance to break away in court today.
