May. 2nd, 2013 11:48 amAnn made sure to walk under the streetlights on her way back to her apartment. She couldn't see them as long as she was under the light. Yet, she couldn't get away from their voices. She knew they could still see her in the light. They had been getting strong enough to do that. The woman stopped and shook her head.
Just get home, she thought. Get back and sleep. She took a couple more breaths. I can do this, Ann thought. She hurried all the way back to her apartment. She ignored the snow falling in her hair. The woman finally reached her front door. Her fingertips almost reached the cold metal when she felt something heavy at her feet. Her eyes moved downwards. A girl in black lied before on the doorstep. She looked as if she had been beaten—lower lip cut, face all bruised up, red handprints on her throat, blood mixed in with her dark hair. Ann backed up with her hand over her mouth.
